Casseroles are comfort food at its best. This Cheeseburger Casserole is the kind of family favorite many of us grew up with and still love today.

My mom always made casseroles, and I’ve kept the tradition alive. This dish is simple, satisfying, and always a hit with kids and adults alike.

When the kids finish their plates, you know you’ve nailed dinner.

How to make Cheeseburger Casserole:

Cook the pasta according to package directions until al dente so it won’t become too soft in the oven. While the pasta cooks, brown the ground beef in a large skillet.

Season the beef with garlic, salt, pepper, Worcestershire sauce, chopped onion, ketchup, and mustard. Stir everything together until well combined.

Drain the pasta and combine it with the seasoned beef, diced tomatoes, and most of the shredded cheese in a casserole dish. Top with the remaining cheese, bake until the cheese is melted, then serve hot.

Ingredient Notes:

  • Rotini Noodles: Rotini works well, but penne or elbow pasta are good substitutes.
  • Ground Beef: Use 80/20 for a richer flavor or substitute ground turkey for a lighter option.
  • Minced Garlic: Fresh or jarred minced garlic both work.
  • Salt and Pepper: Season to taste.
  • Worcestershire Sauce: Adds a savory depth that mimics cheeseburger flavor.
  • Onion: Finely chopped for even distribution.
  • Ketchup and Yellow Mustard: Classic cheeseburger condiments that blend into the sauce.
  • Cheese: Shredded cheddar melts beautifully; use sharp cheddar for more bite.
  • Diced Tomatoes: Canned diced tomatoes add moisture and a touch of acidity.
